The 5 to Thrive: Where I Start with Every Brain

Before I help any client with their brain…
we start here.

Not with planners.
Not with apps.
Not with “just try harder.”

We start with:

The 5 to Thrive

If you feel—
in the words of Peg Dawson—
“smart but scattered,”

this is your starting point.

What Is the 5 to Thrive?

Five simple pillars:

  • Sleep

  • Fuel Foods

  • Hydration

  • Movement

  • Self-Reflection

These are the conditions your brain needs to:

  • Focus

  • Start

  • Follow through

  • Regulate emotions

Especially if you have ADHD or a “neurospicy” brain — these are non-negotiable.

It’s Not a Motivation Problem

Most people think they need more discipline.

But often?

sleepyIt’s a brain support problem.

A tired, under-fueled, dehydrated brain will struggle to plan, prioritize, and finish.

That’s not a flaw.

That’s biology.

Start with Sleep

If you focus on one thing—make it sleep.

Sleep improves everything:

  • Faster learning, better memory

  • Less time re-studying

  • Better mood and emotional regulation

  • More patience with others

  • Healthier metabolism

Sleep regulates the very systems that drive focus and motivation.

Sleep is not a luxury.
It is a performance tool.

Start Small This Week

You don’t need to fix everything.

Just try this:

  • Set a bedtime window (even 30 minutes)

  • Aim for consistency over perfection

  • Notice how your brain feels after a few nights

That’s where momentum begins.

A Final Thought

If you feel scattered…

start with your foundation.

Your brain isn’t broken.

It might just be tired.
